Thought For Food (TFF) Global Challenge 2016/2017





The Thought For Food (TFF) Challenge is dedicated to tackling the global challenge of feeding people through bold, breakthrough solutions and is calling on the world’s best and brightest university students to form teams and develop breakthrough solutions that address this global challenge of feeding 9+ billion people by the year 2050.

TFF challenge aims to catalyze university students from all fields of study to learn more about the complex challenges surrounding food security, and inspire them to channel their passions and creativity towards developing new ideas that make a difference. By participating in the TFF Challenge, you enter into a world in which you can shine. 


You will work with world-class mentors to help turn your idea into a reality. You will have the chance to receive up to $15,000 cash in seed-funding to launch your project, and you may be selected to participate in the TFF Bootcamp, an intense, 10 week startup training which culminates at the TFF Global Summit. You will also join a growing global movement, comprised of friends and supporters who share your passion to make the world a better place.


Eligibility:
University students (undergraduate, graduate, masters or PhD) from any country and any age group who are enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited university are eligible to participate in the TFF Challenge. Teams must have a minimum of 3 members in order to be eligible to participate.

How to enter:
(a) Sign up: Register by October 31, 2016 to participate in the 2016/17 TFF Challenge. At least one member of your team must be signed up by this date.

(b) Form your Team: Create a team of 3-5 university students. Make sure to add them to your team page, and that you each fill out your profile.

(c) Submit your pitch: Submit your team’s Pitch by January 8, 2017, no later than 11:59pm PST. Pitch’s include 2 videos and several short text answers. For Round 1, teams will be required to submit their idea in both text and video format by the pitch deadline (January 8, 2017). These videos must be uploaded to either YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku and abide by the pitch criteria in order to be considered. More details will be provided after you sign up and create a team.

If selected as a Finalist to move on to Round 2, your team will participate in a 10 week Pre-Accelerator training, teaching you how to implement your idea and develop a sustainable business model for your concept. This training culminates in a week long, in person Bootcamp, in which you work alongside finalists from around the world, and complete training with some of the world’s leading startup coaches. The Bootcamp ends with a live pitch at the Global TFF Summit, where your team could win up to $15,000 in a seed-funding grant.

Prizes:
10 Finalist teams will be chosen at the end of Round 1 to move on to Round 2. These 10 teams will receive 10 weeks of Pre-Accelerator business training, and travel and accommodation to attend the TFF Bootcamp and TFF Global Summit in Spring, 2017.

(i) $10,000 Grand Prize and $7,500 Runner-Up Prize Selected by an esteemed panel of judges, based on which teams have the largest potential to help feed 9+ billion people by the year 2050.
 
(ii) $5,000 will be given by Kirchner Food Fellows, based on which team they identify as the most promising to invest in.

(iii) $2,500 will awarded by Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture, based on which team they identify as having a strong impact directly on farmers.
