Smart Farming…….Data Driven Farming with ZENVUS

Farm data collection and analysis has been helping farmers in developed countries to manage their farm operations better. The more information they have, the more they can make decisions tailored to their farm’s specific needs. The information obtained can help farmers identify efficiencies that lead to higher productivity and profitability, lower input costs, and optimized fertilizer use.

To help farmers in Nigeria with data collection and analysis, a Nigerian company, First Atlantic Semiconductors & Microelectronics has introduced 3 products, ZENVUS Smartfarm and ZENVUS Yield and ZENVUS web app. While the ZENVUS Smartfarm can help farmers eliminate guesswork in farming by knowing when, how and what to plant. The ZENVUS Yield enables farmers to be ahead of outbreaks of diseases, pests etc thereby making farming a real business.

The overriding goal of the 3 products is to make farming data-driven and transform farmers into business people who use data to allocate resources, improve yield, reduce waste and accelerate productivity in every aspect of the farming operations.

ZENVUS Smartfarm
ZENVUS Smartfarm is an intelligent electronics sensor which when inserted in a farm soil collects pertinent data like humidity, temperature, pH, moisture, nutrients etc and wirelessly transmits the data to a cloud server where advanced computational models help to make sense of what is happening in the farm. Powered with solar with battery capacity that can last for days, a farmer interacts with the hardware data via free Zenvus Web App which is both desktop- and mobile-friendly.

It has in-built GPS and compass to help validate and authenticate the locations of farms making them utilize other ZENVUS services.
The product works with GSM, WIFI and satellite. Because of the global coverage of satelites, farmers can insert the product in any corner of their farms. There is also a micro SD card to manually download the data without spending on mobile data.

ZENVUS Yield
The ZENVUS Yield is a special hyper-spectral imaging camera that works with Zenvus Web App to provide farmers actionable information for their farming businesses. It has a camera to examine farm vegetation to detect crop disease, pest, drought, stress etc.

It collects all the images and farmers will be able to view those images on the web app. By analyzing the images, stressed crops, droughts, outbreaks of pests and diseases etc can be seen and managed. With ZENVUS Yield and Smartfarm working together, farmers can evaluate the effectiveness of irrigation and fertilizer application by correlating soil data with overall vegetative crop health. The Yield comes in two versions:

(     Yield Fly: Optimized to work with UAV or drones for medium and large farms.
Yield Sky: Designed for small scale farmers to mount on sticks and walk around the farm.

ZENVUS Web App
Data from Smartfarm and Yield which are collected from farms and transmitted to the web app where computational models help make sense of them. The web app also has other features.
