Cowlar….Smart Neck Collars for Dairy Cows

Dairy cows are often vulnerable to health problems which in turn lower their milk yield, reduce milk quality and affects the stability of the reproductive systems.  Cowlar is a cow monitoring system that facilitates an increase in milk yield while improving the herd's health and ultimately maximizing profitability. Cowlar assists with tracking the cow's core temperature, real-time activity and behavior of each individual cow, allowing farmers to detect when the animal is in heat and determine the best time for insemination.

Cowlar offers what has been called a 'FitBit for cows' which allows farmers to track their cows in new and innovative ways.

Cowlar units are non-invasive collars with attached smart sensors. Each collar retains a charge for six months, and is completely waterproof.

The collars detect early signs of disease marked by changes to body temperature, movement and behavior patterns. Similarly, the biological signs of reproductive cycles can be monitored and optimized, improving milk yield as a result.

How it works

a.      Install the Cow Router

Cow router is completely solar powered and can be installed by anyone in just 20 minutes. It connects with all Cowlars within a 2 mile range and uses cellular connectivity to pass information to servers. The server makes sense of the data using machine learning & dairy science based on each cow’s individual breed.

b.      Strap the Cowlars

Tie the cowlar on the cow’s neck. The Cowlar simply consists of a strap designed to comfortably fit around your cow and a small magic box that measure temperature, activity and cow behaviour, i.e. whether it’s eating, sleeping, ruminating or showing lameness. This data is crucial to monitor the cow in a bid to prevent diseases, detect heat cycles and increase milk yield.

c.      Monitor your Cows

The installation process is extremely easy and takes just a few minutes. As soon as that is done, Cowlars will start transmitting live data to your interactive dashboard. The dashboard shows your cow’s temperature & activity readings over time through immersing graphs along with easy to understand insights and actionable recommendations that can be converted into tasks, for your ease.

The data sent by your cows undergoes complex, machine learning based algorithms where data gets combined with expert knowledge base and years of experience to bring you the best actionable recommendations.
